Our Heritage

Proudly Australian made and owned, Capilano was started in 1953 by brothers Tim and Bert Smith, with strong values to support local beekeepers. Today, this proud tradition continues with Capilano supporting more than 800 Aussie beekeeping families.

For more than 65 years, Australia has been waking up with our 100% pure Australian honey – deliciously drizzled on hot crumpets, toast and yoghurt…and lately, a little squeeze in your Capilano-cino, and a whole lot of exciting new recipes.

From humble beginnings…

In the 1950s and 1960’s, selling honey to Australian supermarkets was very fragmented. Tim and Bert believed in creating a better way to help Aussie beekeepers sell their honey and develop a more stable pattern of demand, supply and naturally, a world-class taste!

…to an iconic taste.

Since then, the signature flavour of pure Capilano honey has become the taste Australians have grown up with.

Generations of Aussie families have started their day fueled by our unique blend of Australian Eucalypt honeys, with simply a squeeze from our innovative, no mess, no drip honey packs.

It is the values Bert and Tim instilled in all of us – a deep respect for the craft of beekeeping, quality, innovation, safety and sustainability, that unites us all as one big family of bee and honey lovers.

Still Australian made and owned

Capilano remains 100% pure Australian honey and is Australian made and owned.

Some of our longest supplying beekeepers have passed their craft down to their children and grandchildren, who continue to supply their honey to us today!

It is the values Bert and Tim instilled in all of us – a deep respect for the craft of beekeeping, quality, innovation, safety and sustainability, that unites us all as one big family of bee and honey lovers.

Enjoyed all over the world

We are humbled that Capilano honey is now enjoyed all over the world, prized for its rich smooth taste, purity and health properties.

From China, Japan and Malaysia to Canada, the USA, Middle East and the UK, the delicious taste of Australia – Capilano honey – is just a squeeze away.

What’s in a name?

The Capilano name has a nostalgic connection with the Capilano district near Vancouver, Canada where Tim met his wife, Jill.

The word Capilano means ‘rushing water’ in the language of the native Indian tribe who lived there.

A trip down memory lane

We’ve taken a trip down memory lane and revisited some of our old labels & advertising campaigns. We hope you remember some of these wonderful moments of our history with fond memories too!
